Glebe House And Gallery
Gifted in 1981 to the nation by artist Derek Hill, the Glebe House, St. Columb's, has been restored and its outhouses converted to a gallery. The Regency house is decorated with Victorian William Morris wallpaper, textiles and the Gallery houses works by leading 20th century artists.
The Glebe House and Gallery is a Regency house set in woodland gardens beside Lake Gartan. The Glebe is decorated with William Morris Wallpaper and textiles and has Islamic and Japanese art. The Derek Hill permanent collection includes 300 works by leading 20th century artists, including Picasso and Kokosha, as well as Irish and Italian artists. Exhibitions are shown in the adjoining gallery. Access to the house is by guided tour only. There is access to the ground floor of the Gallery for people with disabilities. There are tearooms on this level. Guide dogs permitted. Parking 200 meters from Gallery. Videos in English relating to the house are shown in the coffee shop.
Donegal County Museum
Based in a fine old stone building, which was once part of the Letterkenny Workhouse, built in 1846. The Museum develops and cares for a comprehensive collection of original artefacts relating to the history of County Donegal in the areas of Archaeology, Geology, Natural History, Social and Political History and Folk life. The first floor exhibition charts the history of Donegal from the Stone Age to the Twentieth Century. A series of temporary exhibitions are held in the ground floor gallery throughout the year. These exhibitions cover a wide variety of topics with something to suit all ages and interests. Opening Times: All year. Monday to Friday 10am-4.30pm. Saturday 1pm-4.30pm. Regional Cultural Center
Situated behind An Grianán Theater on the Port Road, this is a stunning, new glass and aluminum arts center. Visual art exhibitions can be seen in the Gallery and foyer areas. Opening Times: All Year Monday to Friday 1am-5pm. Saturday 1-5pm. Tel: 074 9129186
Colmcille Heritage Center
Situated in Gartan, Churchill, the Heritage Center has an interpretive exhibition featuring Saint Colmcille (Columba), patriarch of Irish monasticism and Scottish Church. There are lovely nature and lake front walks and an Outdoor Adventure Center.
Donegal Castle
A restored 15th century Norman Tower House in Donegal Town with the addition of a 17th century Jacobean Manor House. Features include period fireplace, turrets, curtain wall and Gate House.
Beltany Stone Circle
Located on a hilltop near Raphoe the stone circle of Beltany, one of the five stone circles in Donegal, consists of 64 surviving stones enclosing a raised platform. The stones vary in size, standing 1.2m high on average. The views from the top of the hill are extensive in all directions, overlooking the ancient territory of Magh Itha, which extended from that part of east Donegal far into County Tyrone.
Doe Castle
Situated near Creeslough and is the seat of the Mac Sweeney family. The central tower of the castle is surrounded by a powerful bawn wall overlooking the sea at three sides. As one of Donegal's strongest fortifications, Doe Castle played a pivotal role in Irish history.
Ards Forest Park
Situated between Creeslough and Dunfanaghy and has 480 hectares of park containing, beaches, rivers, viewing points, nature walks, picnic and play areas as well as a huge diversity of plants and wildlife.
Corn and Flax Mills
A complex of industrial buildings which includes both corn and flax mills powered by the river Swilly. The visitor to Newmills can experience the pleasure of seeing one of the largest waterwheels in Ireland in action as it drives the machinery of the corn mill.
